Racked up 3 interviews, no job offers. Will start next week volunteering down in the collections department of the Dallas Museum of Natural History. They seem wonderfully eager to have me because they're getting a new computerized database that has digital image capabilities and they want to start digitizing the collections. And I'm willing to do scutwork until they get it installed.]]> ]]> Yes, it's still scutwork like at the art museum, but I think I like the people better; I won't feel out of place if I wear jeans, and the art museum has *no* doors marked with DANGEROUS ARTHROPOD BREEDING AREA posters. Which I think is a plus in any sort of environment.]]> ]]> And also, the DMNH's base scutwork is cleaning fossils, which is scads cooler than burning CDs. Apparently, I'll mostly be doing stuff like labeling bones, but I expect that a heavy dose of data entry will be on the way after the new collections management database gets here. They're going to import the old Excel spreadsheet that the (not complete) previous data is on, but I've done data imports before and I know there's *always* cleanup to do afterwards.]]> ]]> Hm. I've got a brochure around here somewhere that tells me what I get as perks for being a volunteer there. I should go find it. http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=53 Tue, 9 Dec 2003 12:17 CDT http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=53 I think the interview went well -- at least they laughed at all my jokes. They'll be narrowing the pool down to 3 at the first of the year and re-interviewing at that point.]]> ]]> The flu or whatever it was took everything out of me for over a week, so instead of 2 weeks to get ready to go to London, I've got about 5 days.]]> ]]> Apparently the best use of my time at the DMA is burning CDs. *sigh* On a machine that has enough software or hardware problems that I can't do anything *else* while they're burning and therefore my job is to sit there all day and read, occasionally putting a new CD in to burn. While I'm willing to do scutwork to prove that yes, I am willing to do anything so that they will, hopefully, offer me a job at some point, I can't help but think that this is not doing either them or me any good. http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=52 Wed, 3 Dec 2003 15:12 CDT http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=52 So I'm on two medications for my illness, whether it be flu or "this viral thing" (technical medical term, apparently).]]> ]]> Each of the medications had a side-effect of dizziness.]]> ]]> Together ... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!]]> ]]> It's supposed to wear off in a few days as my body adjusts to the medications, but it's still really annoying.]]> ]]> Interviewed last week for the Nat. Cowgirl thing. I feel rpetty good about it - the job changed since they annoucned it, now the Cattle Raisers' Museum will be building enxt to teh Cowgirls and they'll share an exhibit space, so teh job is 50% doing inventory at the Cattle Raisers/ And my first job out of museum studies school was ... doing inventory for a collections. Spiff.]]> ]]> And the interviewers laughed at all my jokes, which bodes well, I think. They'll be narrowing down the candidates to 3 and re-interviewing in the New Year. Cross fingers.]]> ]]> And now the dizziness is making typing feel *really* *weird* so I'll stop. http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=51 Fri, 21 Nov 2003 17:57 CDT http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=51 Just got a callback from the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, asking for an interview next week. Wish me luck! http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=50 Mon, 17 Nov 2003 00:41 CDT http://www.telophase.net/blog/entry.php?BlogID=50 ...and I don't *think* it's an oncoming train.]]> ]]> Got all but 2 of the pages for the graphic novel project done, and I'm going to do them Monday night. I'm going to Paris. I have the online portfolio done and it's working well in every single browser that's tested it so far. I have a picture I'm dying to draw and I think it's going to turn out good. And did I mention Paris?]]> ]]> A week or so ago, a friend forwarded me an article about a spiffy one-day sale British Airways and Virgin Atlantic were both having. Rock-bottom prices for a transatlantic trip, good until midnight that night. So I emailed Mom, and we realized that when I got hired by someone-or-other that there'd be little chance of me getting a good period of time off for a couple of years, and right now the time was right and the price was right, so we got tickets to London from the 14-24th December. ]]> ]]> And then Mom casually mentioned the idea of taking the Channel tunnel and spending a couple of days in Paris. *girly squeeeeeeeeeeeee!*]]> ]]> I have no idea why I'm so excited about it. I didn't realize I wanted to go until Mom said that. I'm happy that I *can* get excited about travel again -- the last two trips to England, I'd felt fairly normal about it, like it was something routine. Apparently I feel this way when going somewhere new. Yay.]]> ]]> I'm going to take my camera along and see what new pictures I can take. The last trip didn't yield too many good ones, but since I was primarily taking reference photos to use as background in digital paintings, I wasn't looking for good photographs. This time, you can bet yer ass I'm looking for good photographs.
